Hi guys,
This is my first post in this (discus) part of the forum
I just purchased 8 juveniles and am feeding them blackworms.
Do you think that blackworms will provide the necessary protein and nutrients
for these little guys to grow to maturity?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that discus only grow for 18 months.
Is that true?

A varied diet is always better.

They can, but discus get addicted to live blackworms easily and refuse all other food. It's much better to feed a varied diet.
Yes, after around a year, a discus is about a big as it will get. It may thicken and put on weight, but generally not get a whole lot bigger. This is the reason I encourage newbies to discus on this forum to put juvies in a bare bottomed tank, feed the heck out them, and keep the water clean, even if it means daily water changes. Most don't listen, but they will suffer the consequences later on with their " heros". (stunted fish) There is no second chances with discus. If you miss the growth window with foolish care practices, you have ruined your fish.

Discus will keep on growing for several years. Feed them a variety of good quality food. Just google "discus food" or "discus recipe" on how to make your own fish food.
