Like the title says, has anyone ever fed carp filets to RTC? I have a huge one in the freezer that I was planning on using for crab bait but now Im thinking about thawing it and feeding it to my rtc.

Start with a small amount and go from there. If he hasn't gotten sick overnight and his belly is back to normal it's a good bet he'll be ok. Carp=big goldfish pretty much. lol. I don't see a problem with it. I use to feed white suckers to my hybrid a lot. Never hurt him. Good luck!

Have you checked your ph, ammonia, nitrate, ect? I've never had this problem with rtc. Limas for sure, but they shed when they see their own shadows. RTC do it sometimes also, but as I found with my friend's tank it was more an issue with his water quality than anything. I got him doing more frequent water changes and his rtc doesn't shed much anymore. My rtc is pushing 29-30" and very rarely will you see him slimed. If so it's because I have neglected a water change. WHen dealing with a fish that produces that much waste you can't skip waterchanges, but I'm just as guilty as the next guy. Changing water on a 300-400 gal tank takes a while and can get monotonous when you're building a 3000-4000 gal tank lol.

Check that nitrate again, or try a new test kit. Almost impossible to have 0ppm nitrate, unless of course you did a 100% water change...

well its the color coded test where if the water is yellow its 0>5 ppm/l so its somewhere around there. and i only do 50% water changes.

Well thats the fun part of keeping Monstefish!!

And if you have a garden, the plants really like the WC water. I have some Hosta's that doubled in size last year from a good 5-10 gals. of water weekly.
