IMG_7760.JPG Any tips? Was just going to drop it in the tank after the night mode has been on for a bit on the lights. Picked up 2lbs of Catfish and 1 lb of tiliapia fillets for $10. Chopped it up and pre proportioned it into freezer bags. Was going to alternate between this and pellets or should I mix them together?

I alternate... I also didn't have a great time preportioning and refreezing- it thawed out weird (I might be in the minority here), I usually just chop up a full filet at a time and feed what they'll eat, then save the remainder in the fridge for the next day. I usually don't feed daily though unless there's someone that needs to gain weight or if I have little guys

Nice! Mine freezes and thaws ok, I try to keep it in single layers when I freeze. I thaw in tank water and rinse. The catfish can be kind of oily so you might not want to mix them. I usu do catfish the night before a WC. I also rinse a little extra.

Nice, you going to grill it, lol
Dont mix them, do tilapia 1st day then catfish the next feeding, so you can see which one works better.
If you wanna mix it, try mixing with pellet so the pellets will smell like fish.

Alright thanks for the input! Already chopped and mixed 4 days worth in small bags to freeze but that was only about 1/8 of the catfish and maybe a 1/4 of the tiliapia I got. Won't mix them anymore. Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 i also bought about double this to grill for my own meal prep lol

If you want to train them to eat with the lights on starve them for a few days then only offer food with the lights on.... they will give in and watching them eat is really enjoyable.

I would alternate between pellets and tilapia instead of mixing them

Sometimes i steal my polys tilapia and season it with few drops of lemon then grill, sometimes i put mayonase and this lipton garlic mix then bake it for 15mins. Lol

I like feeding with the lights off because i still have quite a few rather larger rainbowfish from the previous tank setup that are super aggressive feeders. theyll eat everything and push everyone else out of the way if the lights are on. as they continue to die off ill switch to lights on feedings. even "lights off" for me is still really good visibility. the led fixture has a really cool "cloudy" nightmode that is blue with a rolling cloud effect and i have a couple of custom settings ive made of dimmed reddish/green light to give a faded sunset look
