Anyone else feeding live cicadas to their fish? They're everywhere here in Maryland and my fish love them.

I fed a lot of grasshoppers, crickets and other large bugs to my fish when I kept monsters. I always collected them around my house and never used any kind of insecticides or other pesticides on my rural acreage, so felt they were pretty safe to use.
Cicadas can fly a considerable distance after they emerge as adults; I would give some thought to the possibility that they came in contact with some chemical agents at another location before you catch them.

They're coming out of the ground after 17 years. Can see the little holes from where they're emerging. No concerns from me about chemicals.
Nope, they're way too big for my fish, I did feed them a huhu grub once years ago though. Couple severums managed to eventually tear it apart and eat it.
I didn't think about it until afterwards that they've got big jaws on them. Maybe not the best idea.

I tried it this morning with my Oscar...he took a shot but the cicada just kept clinging to the floating plants so Brick couldn't get a clean grab. He lost interest after that.
My Oscar loves them and Japanese beetles the most. Sounds like a toilet flushing. My favorite to feed him tho is the green chameleons and the tan house geckos. I love watching that. Takes the edge off not being fishing.
I've been feeding cicadas to acaras and chanchitos mostly. Of course my native Sunfish like them as well.
I also feed plenty of live red wigglers from my bin and found insects when I see them.
