Alright guys, i need some more advice. I live on the gulf coast and do ALOT of fishing. I catch alot of redfish, spainish mackeral, flounder, speckled trout, etc. So i have a freezer FULL of fish. I was just wondering if i can feed some of this to my Cichla. I keep hearing that you shouldn't feed saltwater fish to them, and was just wondering if this is true, and if so, why? I mean, most of the shrimp i feed them now are from saltwater, so whats the difference? Any of you guys feed you pbass saltwater fish? I usually feed them massivoire and shrimp, but i went ahead and gave them some spainish mackeral...and man they Looooove it! is this not ok? should i just stick to the shrimp? Just kinda want to give em a little more variety!

Im no expert.......but i feed my Jags chunks of pollock fillets and they gobble it down like little pigs. I would assume that if they eat shrimp which is a salt water species, other fish from the sea "should" be ok.
Thats what i figured, but.....man some of the info you get from some of these lfs's around here just sound ridiculous. Just wanted to make sure. thanks guys
I don't think you will have problem with salt water fish feeding your cichla. I also do feed my fishes with Mackarel scad. I buy in our local wet market. and its cheaper than other fish fillet in American supermarkets.
