I have one Clown knife and one Royal knife. What are acceptable foods? I have been feeding them feeder fish, but it's getting pretty expensive in this area. There are rivers in the area with baby frogs and minnows that can be easily obtained. Would these forms of food be healthy for my knives? What else may I use to try to cut down on the cost of live feeders? Thanks.

Most predators can learn to accept flakes, pellets, ghost shrimp, krill, etc. All of my predatory fish are off of feeders, except as the occasional treat.

I bought some hikari food sticks. My aro and my bichir like them but i never see my CKF feed but the food is always gone! 2oz cost $5.99. and last a few weeks between all my tanks. I think i might try squid too though calamari is cheap around here, I can freeze it and i bet it would last a while:D

Try feeding BW.

How big are the knives?

The Clown is pushing about 8" now and the Royal is about half that size. Funny thing is that when I bought them (I purchased them @ the same time) the Clown was only an inch longer; now the Clown is twice the size. As of now, they aren't fighting or anything of the sort. I have been putting frozen BW in, but I dont' think the Royal is eating them. The clown doesn't seem to mind as long as it gets food...if they will eat earthworms, is that a good choice to go with? I know I should vary their diet; what foods are potentially poisonous to them (foods I should avoid)?

earthworms will go down well and are a good source of protein and they are free what more could you ask

I'll try that. May have to starve them first as I've put earthworms in the tank before and the knives tend to ignore them. Roughly how fast do they grow? If I have a 4-5" and a 7-8", how large should I expect them to be in a year?
