I have 2 clown knifes and all they will eat is fish. I know that some fish will get disease if they only eat fish. Are clown knifes ok if they only eat fish?
feeders carry lots of different diseases and they aren't always the healthiest source of food. A lot of feeders are skinny and just skin and bone and don't provide much nutrition to the fish. I'm sure if you starve your fish for a few days and throw in some ghost shrimp or silversides they'd be a bit more willing to taste something different
At work I usually just throw a few ghost shrimp into the tank before I leave and the fish usually get them. Seem to like them a lot, too.
I'd rather not feed them fish to be on the safer side. I'm not sure about the potential for ghost shrimp to carry parasites, but I've heard that it's a healthier alternative than feeding fish.
If they don't take them, I don't know. My flower horn was holding out for his frozen food and wouldn't eat his pellets, so he had a little bit of a fasting and is eating everything I offer him now.
My 10" royal clown switched over to frozen krill right away after only a day or two of not eating. If your knives are smaller, then frozen blood worms are usually taken pretty well.

I got mine to eat cichlid and trout pellets both sinking and floating. I also feed mine thawed smelts and several types of other thawed fish. Neoprodigy is piecing together a new article in the ARTICLE section listing my fish in the tank and somewhere around 50 or more new pictures. Some of the pics will be with the article and the rest will be linked to the gallery. In the pics there are afew with the Knives in.
In the article you will see what I feed the tank they eat everthing in the list ezcept the veggies/fruit. In the list of fishes how big the clownknives were when I got them and how big they are now.
I only feed live fishes to them about 4 times a year. And only fish I bred in my ponds.
Try earthworms and when he starts eating those add a few sinking pellets toget them being thought of as food. let them go a few days without food first.
