i want to buy this clown knife. he is about 10 inches. the owner at the lfs says it only eats live. but IMO i think the damn owner is an idiot overall. can i get the clown knife off of live? the co-owner said he can starve himself to death if he doesn't eat what he wants to eat. will he eat frozen prawns?

I got a clown knife @ 16" and was on live only. I starved him for 2 days and he ate shrimp right away. Now it will eat anything that I offer. They are easy to convert off of live IME

Mine is around 12" and the same thing applied...starved for 2-3 days and it now takes everything.

So IME as well..they were easy to get off live.

mine is about 8 inches and i have him on floating hikari pellets. he gobbles them up fast as hell. i was so excited the first day i saw him eat haha

there nocternal, they go nuts at night or when u turn the lights off. mine go buckwild when the lights are off n i feed him. cK's are cool

I used to feed my fish with live feeders then I lost a jardini to bad goldfish feeder and develop fin rot.

I starve the whole tank for 4 days, raise the temp up to 84 deg (raises their metabolism) and start chunking market shrimp and pellet. You'll be surprise how quick 10 pieces dissapear in matter of second.

took me over a week of starving my royal to get him off live fish. now he takes silversides, smelt and shrimp. nightcrawlers too as treats once in a while.

they dont look too active

i had the same problem. my knife was always hiding except when lights were out. what i did was get a bunch of plastic plants to float on top and they cover almost all of the surface. that combined with only feeding when i turn on the lights has made my royal a lot more active. he actually gets real lively the moment i turn on the lights because he knows its feeding time. it might take a while but it worked for me.
