Hi, I was wondering is it healthy for fish to eat cocktail shrimp? You know those frozen cooked ones at the grocery store.

I have been looking for a solution for sinking pellets for my Lapradei and it's REALLY hard to find em. Massivore is also very expensive online. $3 gets me a pack of Shrimp that'll last me over 2 weeks. My FH eats it too so I was wondering if this cooked food is alright. Thanks. :)

uhh i feed my fish pieces of frozen freshwater shrimp from the supermarket. but i only feed it to em as a treat, cichlid gold is their main diet..

Just leave off the cocktail sauce! :D

shrimp is a staple for my fish i go through about 4-6 lbs a month.

im pretty sure cooking them kills some of the vitamins and nutrients the fish need. ive always just washed well, and fed raw shrimp.

if you look, you should be able to find raw shrimp in big bags for a decent price. the rare times i get them for my fish, i try to get them whole and i dont vein them. in the wild, the fish dont exactly have someone to pull the shells and veins out for them either. plus im sure their a decent source of other vitamins and stuff.

it's not iodine that will hurt your fish, since it's in such small amounts. Read the ingredients on the bag, if it has anything other than shrimp, water, brine, etc don't feed it. There's a sulphur compound that's put into frozen shrimp and fish that's particularly harmful to a fishes nervous system. For the life of me I can't remember what it is however.

Ooh...thanks for the info. See I knew I needed to get it in on here lol...

I couldnt find raw shrimp that was affordable and shelled lol. I'll go get some next time at a bigger place though. I guess i'll cook my cocktail shrimp and eat it mysefl!
