Hey, I was wondering if you can feed Crens insects or nightcrawlers or other types of worms like red wigglers.
Just asking out of curiosity, I have fed other large cichlids without repercussions.
And if so is there somethings I should stay away from.

interesting i dont think there would be a problem seems like i seen it once on a search here i feed alot of mealworms im not sure but it seems like they would get extra nutrients from the shell im sure a real piker will let us all know

found one im just not sure how to link but straight from peanuts mouth its ok to feed earthworms mealworms etc. its under increasing appetite

nah they should be fine, im saying they would eat this in the wildd

I feed mine red wrigglers all the time. No problems!

Aye, red wigglers from Walmart or the canadian night crawlers they have are what I use....still use actually! They absolutely LOVE them! At first they might be skittish of them, but before long they will be craming them down their throats so fast you can't keep up. Cracks me up when they get too many worms or too big of one and it starts coming back outa their mouth, so they gotta keep trying to reswallow it.

I figured it would be OK, Just wanted to check with you guys first.
I mean during the rainy season down there I would figure they get all kinds of food washed in the rivers and streams.

Tried nightcrawlers, red wigglers and even some medium trout worms last night.
Xingu I, Johanna and Sveni all ate mediums and reds. But no luck with the Marm I got 6 weeks ago. It hasn't eaten in 4 days.
Trying to ween off of feeders but no luck. Just looks at them and swims away. It killed about a 2.5' round Silver dollar last night. but could not swallow it. It won't eat anything except live fish so far.
I'll try to give it another day or two otherwise I may have to give some feeders so it doesn't get emanciated and get sick.
Can't get any of them to take any type of pellets though.:irked:
