So, while my family and I try to eat whole foods instead of processed because of the multitude of benefits, I can't imagine there would be a difference for animals. While I do not feed the fish feeders and the like because of the risk of disease, is there any risk of feeding my RD crickets? I imagine he would love them because he destroys fly's when I manage to nip one with the swatter its still kicking somewhat. Anyone's experience?

Store bought Crickets are full of cardboard. If you do it, raise the buggers for a week or two and feed them good veggies, then feed to your wet-pets.
Enjoy : )

There is hardly any risk in feeding store bought crickets in my experience and my arowana loves them.

+1, Feeding them for a bit will add to their nutritional value :)

Now to convince the wife that we need to allocate an area for crickets!!

Good luck, my mom and sisters cringe at the idea of having "bugs" in the house. lol
