here fishy fishy
Just wondering those of you who buy worms to feed your fish form Tackle/Bait Shops ever have any issues with them?

Not sure where they buy their worms from? Around here, there are private guys taking bus loads of worm pickers out harvesting.....I know they go picking to farms, golf courses, and so on.

I'm wondering if these places use pesticides, that get ingested by the worms, and then get eaten by our fish?

I have never used worms from these places, and wondering if anyone has had bad experieces?

They are probably fine, but your concerns make sense.

Myself, I only use them for fishing.

I pick my own for my fish where I know they havn't sprayed, fertilized, etc... I feel more comfortable this way.

Burt:)

I feed worms from the bait shop to my fish, but I know where they come from. Just ask your store to tell you their provider's contact and coordinates, and check with them. Nothing beats peace of mind :)

any worms left over from fishing go in my tank. Been doing it for years with no problems. I would still ask where they come from and research it as like the above poster said " nothing beats piece of mind "

the packaging is the differance between pet stores and bait shops. As long as you dont get the flavored or glow in the dark worms

WTF

What is it, your not part of the syndicate, your threads get ignored?:screwy:

WOW! You referenced the stingray people, yet this thread isnt even in the stingray section. Stingray owners also tend to feed balckworms to their rays. Relax bro...

If you really want to make sure your worms are ok, you could always quarnt. them in a compost pile for a few weeks. This way you know that any junk in there system is out of them and in addition you have provided them with some good food to munch on.

Hope this helps good luck!

I feed my Cichlids bait shop stuff, maby i have just been lucky but i havent had any problems

I know that some baitshops spray down their worms with some kind of chemical attractant. I would imagine this stuff is safe for fish, since it's meant to get their attention, i used to use it back when i was a fisher. but i remember it leaving a film on the water surface, so i guess that's something to watch out for.
