Quarantine Tank
Im currently treating my tank for ich through water changes, temp raising, salt, and rid ich. Ive heard conflicting thoughts on whether or not to feed your fish during treatments. Any thoughts???

I do, don't know if I should but so far so good.

If they will eat while sick you should feed as you normally do. A lot of the time fish don't eat while they are sick.

eating is good feed them just don't over feed them -Anne

Reason i asked if the treatment is an the established tank or hospita/q tankl is because hospital tanks are small and the filter is most likely not cycled well. Feeding may cause the ammonia levels to go up and might even do more harm than good.

Good point.

I would still feed but would do water changes using water out of his home tank. This may not be practical if his home tank is a 29. In that case I would use water from the largest tank I had and if you don't have a large tank I would monitor the sick tank and do 50% when you see ammonia starting to come up.

You will need to check the meds you are using to make shure it is ok to change the water..... prima fix and mela fix dissapate out of the water daily so it dosen't matter but some meds may need to accumulate... if your not shure call the number on the back of the med and ask.

if a fish eats while its sick is a great or terrible sign

a fish who has fallen off his/her regular eating plan can have a number of problems from a parasitic infection, a deadly gash, to a bully of a tankmate

when you seee a fish completely loose interest in food it IS something to worry about

when a fish starts to look at you as if it exspects food while in treatment, go ahead and toss it a bit of food and continue treating for a mere day or two more depending on the exstent of the injury

eating is a sign that a fish will pull through and make it

As a last resort we used a syringe with medicated food that we made into a past and force fed a fron once.... worked out well but the fish better be good size.

Whenever I am treating fish, I give half the regular amount than normal.
