I have a small pike cichlid in my 55 gallon community tank with a festivum ,angels, serpaes, corys and a Ram.
It is about 2 inches and i was told that it might be a crenicichla regani
All that it will eat is frozen bloodworms and very occasionally bits of algae water.
i know that they need high protein and that frozen blood worms are like nutritionally worthles.

any ideas what i could feed it that has high protein?

thanks

I feed mine bits of chopped up fresh shrimp.

ive tried that but it takes a piece in its mouth, swims around the tank with it and then spits it out and leaves it.

Patience. Most pikes will do this just to get a taste of the food. Once they learn that its food, they normally turn into gluttons with it. :)

Other great foods are:

Mysis shrimp
Brine Shrimp
Cocktail Shrimp
Sinking Pellets
Chopped up earth worms
Krill

There are so many options out there. You just have to try them. ;)

I feed my regani, wallacii, and noto's the following, every other day: freeze dried daphnia, freezed dried krill, frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis, frozen glassworms, frozen daphnia.

Frozen bloodworms are great and mimic what they eat in nature, it's frozen brine that doesn't have a lot of nutrition becuase they rupture during the freezing process.

There isn't much info on their natural habitats, but Noto's actually hunt through the leaves for apistogramma wigglers and free swimming fry. Have given them convict eggs and wigglers before too.

Freeze-dried foods? Wow, I've tried many over the years and have yet to have a fish that will actually eat them. That's great if your guys will take them!

It takes a while, but they usually learn from watching other fish. After not giving them frozen for several days, I start giving the freeze dried. They look really confused as the other fish eat and they can't find their normal goodies. Eventually they'll taste it, but spit it out. Just takes a while though, most normally come around. Not all though.
