I read in a book that is not liked by many shark keepers on here, that you can feed earthworms to sharks, in my case i would be feeding it to a 8 to 9 inch brown banded bamboo and the books states that it is not unhealthy for them. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience or opinions about doing this. thanks

I'm moving this to the shark forum so you will get better and accurate responses.

It's strongly, strongly recommended to feed sharks similar foods to what they would actually eat in the wild. As such, while feeding a worm to a shark may not be detrimental to its health, the shark MUST be fed a combination of fish and shellfish.

Also, I can't imagine that the worm would be in any way appetizing to the shark.

Okay feeding earth worms to sharsk is just crazy. It's equally as bad as feeding Goldfish or other freshwater fishes to sharks. This is entirely unsuitable as food for sharks.

Still some species of sharks, like bamboos, horn sharks & catsharks do naturally prey on marine invertebrates which can include some types of marine worms.

As well as unnatural, i believe it would be extremely messy and would really mess with your water quality.

I had a small bamboo some time ago that I could not get to eat anything and I followed the advice of the book that is probably mentioned here. The shark took to the worms and later started to eat more suitable foods. My shark didnt show any ill effects from the worms and they were not messy in the tank either. Now its obvious that the earthworms are not what a shark would normally eat and is not the best thing for it but to me it kept the shark from starving and stimulated its appetite

Bamboo sharks get to be the same size in captivity as they do in the wild.

I would NEVER suggest feeding earthworms to a shark. There are so many other GOOD foods to get them eating. Even the ones that people swear up and down won't eat will come around with proper seafood.

Krill, squid, clam, small fish, shrimp, scallops, Ocean Nutition shark/ray diet, Mazuri shark and ray gel..... Even try small chunks of salmon for those really hard cases.
