im trying to bulk up my juv festae and grow them on because they are pissing me off at how slow they are growing, would there be any problems with feeding earthworms every second day

there's nothing wrong with feeding earthworms though I think a steady diet of a quality flake food supplemented by earthworms around 3-4 times per week would be best. Also the better the water quality the faster they'll grow so the more water changes you do the better.

However festae are known to be fairly slow growers. The male I had took around 3 years to reach 10" SL. The female I had was about 7-8" SL.

Don't want to hijack but would you guys trust fishing bait worms? The kind you can get from the convince store.

They have never done me wrong. They can be quite big though.
I usually freeze them first, then cut them up and keep in freezer until I want to thaw them and feed.
*I just dont like cutting up live worms. and most fish get extremely messy with bigger worms. All depends on the fish though.

Ive fed my fish earthworms as a treat or 1 every other day for over 10 yrs without an issue. There are several different kinds..and the bigger ones will make a mess of clean water fast if you put more than 1 or 2 in. I prefer the smaller redworms. They dont bleed as much or have any squirting defense mechanism like the larger earthworms.

Just dont try and use these if you can avoid it ;)

I feed red wigglers pretty regularly. They're a great food for many CA and SA cichlids.

I trust bait stores (but not Walmart ;) )...but buying worms can get expensive.

Culturing red wigglers is really easy and mess / odor free.
