Guys,

I need some help.... I have a fire eel (22 inches or so) for over 6 months who has been impossible to get to eat anything but ghost shrimp... he will not even take nightcrawlers. I regularly feed frozen krill, tilapia, massivore and cut shrimp and he shows no interest in any of it. He is in a community tank but i have made many efforts to target feed. I am at a loss and will take any ideas...

One thing i was thinking - I have a tiretrack growing out who is close to a foot or so now...he eats everything... if i put them together do you think the fire will learn from the tire track?

Thanks

That's odd, my eels are all over the nightcrawlers. Maybe a little competition could spur interest. Just watch for behavior issues. I have heard they tend to stick to one prey item and can be picky.

That is what i am afraid of... anyone else? Ideas?

try earth worms mate

Mine demolishes earthworms, ghost shrimp, and I've seen it pick at cut up frozen shrimp every so often. Refuses pellets. Makes a big show of sniffing them and then going away. He's a jerk.

Mine will only take frozen krill. And I mean .frozen. If they thaw out on the substrate they will still be there in the morning. And I tried soaking in Zoe for vitamins and he wouldnt even touch them!

They sure make for interesting pets though

well they love earthworms i know that, they slip down really easy... is he happy? has cover and isnt being picked on, what tank mates and tank size? good water change schedule?

Got lucky or just fine wanted to eat last night. Chopped worm really small and brought it by hand to his cave. He came out when he smelled it saw it and my hand. Didn't seem bothered by me, I dropped the worm like a shovel from my hand he sniffed my hand for a min then took a huge mouthful of worms. Then went back in the cave. Left my hand there and he came back out and ate another mouthful. Just picked up my little guy a couple days ago. He is small only about 6 inches. Hopefully he grows fast and eats well for me
