Feeding fish in giant tank with center over flow tower?

Just wanted to ask about feeding fish with over flow tower.


How do people do it?

Does all food have to sink for this to even work?

If I turn off everything...3 little giant water pumps every day at feeding time for an hour would that harm the pumps?
 
most of the time i used sinking foods like pellets, bloodworms, or chopped fish. the only floating foods used were larger pellets and crickets for arowana. You could use larger floating food i think, if the overflow grate (i'm assuming there is one) is small enough to not let the food through, the fish would just pick it off.

also i don't think there would be a problem turning off pumps, just seems like an inconvenience. also why for an hour? does it take a while for your fish to eat?
 
Agreed with above, I don't understand why it takes an hour to feed your fish. if you're feeding floating foods, just turn the pumps off, feed then turn the pumps on or just feed sinking foods.

Suprene Mag Drives stick when you start them up frequently. Then you have to beat with a hammer. I got rid of them but never went back to floaters. Feed foods that don't sink fast or just drop a few at a time. I started using Xtreme cause they sink fairly slow. My Aro now eats from the bottom.

Thanks guys so much.

I will just stick to sinking foods. I have so much current in the tank that everything gets sucked thru the tower.

I don't want the pumps sticking. I mentioned an hour mostly to rest the pumps awhile instead of just turning them off for 5 minutes.
 
You can make a feeding ring from anything.

it piles up in front of the overflow and won't let the pellets through, but allows good water flow. the bluegill will often wait until the food is mixed in with the plants so they can "hunt".
