For those who keep native fish, whould they be fed in the winter when kept outside. Ive heard with goldfish, dont feed when the water is below 54. Is this true with channel catfish as well. I have a 5 inch albino in an outdoor pond. The temperature gets to about 32 in the winter. Will it be ok outside ans should I feed it. Ive got a 55 gallon inside if I need to keep him indoors.

I don't know. I am certain that I threw around 1,000 feeder goldfish in my farm pond for the Bass and around 20 survived the winter, and are now WAY too big to be eaten. I can't swear to the average temperature that year in MD., and my pond has NEVER completely frozen over, but the growth of Pond Comets in my outdoor farm pond during the winter months fas phenominal.

The bass and green sunfish eat precious little during the winter and feeders were not taken below a certain temperature. Not positive exactly what that temperature is.

In my experience you do not feed at all once the water drops below 45 degrees or so. I understand the fish cannot metabolize food at that temp and it could kill them. I never feed my koi or cats in the winter up here in ct. If your pond does not freeze this may not apply......where are you exactly??
