Does anyone feed their fish red meats like beed etc...? A while back I had a talked with someone who was following a thread of someone that was doing so. What would this do to the fish and is it safe?

its hard for em to digest any fat on it, most people would say either don't feed it to em at all or only use it as food every few days not as a staple diet - i personally feed beef heart from time to time and haven't seen any real negative effects

I feed beefheart to my bichirs & pictus cats occasionally (the ABK I just added will probably start eating it too). They're fine so far...its been about a month. Its a pretty common practice.

Beefheart is relatively lean, just cut all the fat off the outside. Blend with fish stuff (silversides, shrimp, oysters, etc...) in a blender (the finer the better-it breaks apart easier...) and freeze on a cookie sheet. Food for a long while to suplement staple foods such as pellets or flakes.

i feed them beef (heart and lean cuts) and venison heart..

bichirs, arowana, convicts and anything else that is in a shared tank

I get fresh beef heart from the butcher. Skim the fat off and dice into cubes then freeze, thaw and feed.
My big jar doesn't eat it anymore. My little jar still likes it :grinno:. My ck's and bichirs eat it as well. I haven't noticed any ill effects from feeding fresh beef heart.

It might make a huge mess of the water, i don't know.

Beefheart is good for growth considering the protein levels, But will cause long-term degenerate effects on the organs. Most fish have not adapted to digest mammalian type meats, So it produces alot of biproducts internally, and can be a major contributer to fatty liver disease and constipation.
Stick to prawns, shrimps, and mussels. Much better source of proteins that are easily digested and clean burning. There are much healthier alternatives to proteins, plus you dont have to deal with an 8lbs fatty nasty cows heart.
