i just added my 1st fish to tank, 4 damsels and a dusk blenny, i feed them spectrum marine, which is one of the best pellet foods over here, i chuck a few pellets in and they grab one or 2 each if they can b4 it hits the gravel, but once it is on the floor they dont seem to touch it, not like my fw fish they will eat every last bit off the floor, my gravel is white so they should be able to see the pelets, although theres a bit of grass type algae but they should still be able to see it. is this the norm for these fish or are they grabbing the food later when im not looking?

Some fish are only midwater feeders and will only hit food in the water column.

You should go wit flakes bro. There are much easier to use with mid and upper water feeders. I use to use pellets in one of my aquariums and the fish would eat one or two and then they would just cloud up the water. Not good especially ina new aquarium.

You can also use frozen foods and target areas of your tank - for frozen cubes, you can use a big hole (not huge, lol just wider holes) mesh sack, little ones with drawstring top. Suspending them in the middle of the water column allows the food to stay primarily in one area, teaches the fish to feed from it, and as it melts and pieces break away, they are right in the middle, allowing the fish to gobble them up quickly. This is simply my own method I devised after trying other ways, and it has worked the best for me, plus if they dont eat it all, all I do it pull the bag out of the water and toss the left overs, keeping waste to a minimum. If your interested, this may sound funny, but it's true - go to wal-mart or some other similar store and go buy a cheap pair of their goggles - toss the goggles, lol, and keep the mesh pouch they came in. the bag is soft, but tough, and the holes are large enough for the fish to get the food out of, but small enough to keep the cube from slipping out. Just my method, take it or leave it.
