Hi all, I am thinking of giving my cichlids (oscar/ GT/ sev/ blue acara/ ellioti/ heckelii) some variety. Their staple is all Hikari - sinking gold, bio gold, aglae wafers, seaweed extreme, etc. These are 30-50% protein. I am also thinking of feeding mealworms once a week as a treat. They are the only live worms I have access to.

I want to introduce some more fiber so the fish won't get bloated/constipated. I tried blanched zucchini before which is what I used to feed my plecos (now gone), but the cichlids just made a huge mess of them that clouded the water. I always have packs of frozen veggies that I eat (corn kernels, carrot cubes and peas) that I just realised are perfect cichlid bite-sized chunks. How would cichlids go with eating these? I will blanch/boil them first. Are these good for them? How often to feed veggies? Twice a week?

Thanks.

I have used thawed frozen peas, and they work well for cichlids (there is a sort of shell that is good to remove, as it often passes thru the digestive tract whole and sits until you vacuum it up).
I tried broccoli, and some cichlids loved it, although it tended to permeate the entire house with with a smell akin to making sour kraut (or a giant fart).

Mine were all protein pigs lol. I ended up making my own frozen food to trick them into eating veggies. Malibar and reg Spinach/ Spirulina/ Red lettuce/ Peas/ Zuccinni ect. dice em up real good if you don't have a processor. Get your protein together nightcrawlers/ mealworms/ tilapia ect dice as well mix together with veggies and some boiling water. Take that mixture and pour it into an ice cube tray. Don't forget to label it if you have roommates :)
