hey guys....

i am a total newb to frozen food feeding, so i got some questions cuz my new leopard puffer i guess needs some frozen foods.....

i have a can of dried mini-shrimp fish food, when it is all dried up and crispy, is that what freeze dried is?

question: can i soak them in a little water, and freeze them, and then that would create my frozen snack for the puffer?

also, same question for bloodworms - can i just freeze the live ones?

so, my general question is - whether something is alive, or dried, can i just dump it in the freezer to make my food? (if dried, soak in water first...)

thanks for any help you guys can provide....main problem is - there isn't much variation on fish food available to me here in china.....unless i go back to the megastore.....

Yea I freeze wild caught feeders and shrimp, but always thaw out before feeding to my fish, there's no need to re-freeze freeze dried food, just soak it a little before feeding.

thanks for the input --

but it is my understanding that puffers need actually frozen foods, not thawed because of their tooth/teeth?

or perhaps slightly thawed?

just feed them snails in the shell once a week. that helps keep their teeth filled down.

Handy info....:naughty:

thanks for the info guys!

so if i am gonna take live bloodworm, and make them into frozen
bloodworm cubes....what is the best way to go about it?

basically looking for any info on making frozen food....

and i take it that i do not need to thaw it really before giving it to the puffer?

Is there some reason you can't just buy frozen food? Is it not available or something? 'Cause I really it would be cheaper than all the fuss and way more appetizing and healthy for the fish.
Freezing live bloodworms or brine shrimp could possibly be okay. I would just pour them into a cookie sheet and freeze it. Then you can break it into what you need after it is frozen.
But again, I would just buy them. A cube pack is like $3.50 here. Don't know what you pay for live bloods but brine here is $2 for a bit that if you strained it down wouldn't be half of what you get in a pack for not double the cost.
I can sorta see it if you don't have any frozen available.
As for freeze dried....I don't think it is equivalent. Many fish that eat frozen thawed won't look at freeze dried, even if you soak it ahead of time.
