My convicts finally gave me fry and now I'm figuring out what I can feed them. I have a small thing of tropical flakes that I can crush up for them, but I just tried crushing up some hikari sinking carnivore pellets and sinking it down to them through a tube. Looks like they're devouring the stuff...is it safe for them?

Sweet. They just took out two full (crushed) pellets in a couple of minutes...crazy.

Congrats on the fry. :)

I've found that you don't even really need to crush up the flake for them. The parents will chew up the larger flakes and spit them back out for the fry to attack.

But yeah, any crushed food should be fine for them. I like to keep it pretty varied for mine, crushed shrimp pellets and cichlid pellets, hikari first bites, cichlid flakes, etc. I tried brine shrimp for a while, but the hassle wasn't really worth it for me. The fry will even attack the bloodworms I drop in for the parents occasionally. Funny watching a 1/2" fry swimming around with a 3/4" bloodworm sticking out of it's mouth. :grinno:

^. I didnt even try to feed them. I just fed the parents and the parents fed the fry. Convicts are great.
