Money is tight these days, I can buy a big bag of goldfish pond pellets for very cheap. I know it is okay to feed tropical fish goldfish pond pellets once in a while. But what do you think about long term?

What are you feeding?

And just so you know alot of people sell dog food as pond pellets. And also alot of people knowingly feed dog food to alot of different fish.

If money is tight I would suggest you take your favorite fish pellet and find out its nutrional value and then go to a local walmart or maybe online and match the nutrional values to a dog food.

You will be very suprized at how closely the values are. (puppy chow) in a light blue bag at walmart is very high on nutritional value and many people fed this to fish.

One tip is to feed it slower so that none gets left in the tank. Thats about the only difference between cheap fish pellets and dog food. The dog food falls apart quicker in water.

More specific than tropical fish? Its pretty broad. An example would be Predators, no. Tinfoil barb, yes.

Which brand is this? Goldfish products contain a lot of fats as goldfish need the fatty acids.

It is ok, won't do any harm to them but for sure the nutrients are not sufficient enough.

Wardly goldfish pond pellets, 5 pound bag which cost $11.00 at Wal-Mart. I bought a bag and it lasts a long time.

This seems to work just fine with tropicals that are not prone to buoyancy disorders (i.e. those blood parrots) although it is completely rubbish to fancy goldfish especially as it is mostly starch-based.:shakehead

the only thing I've heard of is a link to hith/lateral line erosion on oscars when feeding them pond pellets. i've never done it myself so I don't know the truth to it, but that's what I've heard from a friend.

otherwise should be ok.

Here is an update after 2 months. I decided to feed the goldfish pond pellets daily since a 5 pound bag is $11.00. So far my tropical fishes have gotten really fat and they are growing in size. My clown loaches once striken with skinny disease with a tropical fish diet are now healthy and fat.

I dont recommend this to everyone but so far it is looking good.

Just go buy the purina fish food from the feed store. Its less then a dollar a LB usually bulk, probably 1.50 a lb if u dont buy a full bag.
