ok, so i recently purchased a GT and its around 6-7 inches,
i have only experience with african cichlids and some discus, in our country food is usualy from asia and i mean around all of asia, so anyways i havenot seen ANYTHING from the brands you mention here on the site i wish we could but unfortunalty we dont get those foods here in Saudi Arabia. SO.....
what are the key elements to look for when feeding a GT ? i bought what was closest to what i would think he would eat so he doesnt starve until i get all the correct foods,

flowerhorn color enhancing and hump enhancing pellet food (the only pellets large enough he would accept :irked: )
dried shrimps
frozen blood worms
fresh shrimp (i froze it all)

so please give me your advice on whats good and bad from these

thanks a bunch!

i feed my GT's:
Hikari pellets(base of diet)
crickets(occasional)
Blood worms(occasional)
Freeze dried shrimp(occasional)
freeze dried tubifix worms(snack; make a mess so not very often but they go crazy for them)

Spirulina, or quality large pellets as a staple food
Mealworms, crickets, brine shrimp, krill as the supplement is what I'd suggest.

i read the ingredients on the flowerhorn food and it has spirulina as second ingredient and krill too yay, ill also add tubifex worms i found some the other day but didnt think to buy it.
I know for sure i cant buy crickets, brine shrimp OR mealworms in this country. would live fish be a choice? i do have a great fish market here what fresh foods can i feed him besides shrimp that are safe for him?

thank you :)

so i had a question, i have been feeding him thses pellets for 6days now and i have noticed a big difference in his colored spots, they are shinning so bright! and he is developing a dark red tint to his base color
so speaking of good quality foods, is this an OK rate for him to show signs of improvement?

The pellets sound good. If I were you I would stay away from the worms because if you don't have a smaller fish in your tank to clean up it just makes a huge mess. But frozen shrimp and freeze dried krill are good. You could also try whole frozen fish, if you can find really small ones. Pictures?

IME GTs do best when fed a vegitable based diet as opposed the a meat based diet. While they are omniviours and some animal protean is good for them thier digestive is more like that of and african cichlid and meat based diets tend to give them problems in there digestive tracts. I had luck with NLS, Hakari Bio-Gold, Omega One Super veggie pellets ect. A diet based on a quality pellet with little to no supplementation is the best. Don't get me wrong an occasional worm is going to hurt them but should not be given too often.

Agree Hikari Bio-Gold for GT main diet
