Hi, lets help eachother out here, what do you feed your plecs and how do you feed them? I have read the sticky thread but belive that we should help eachother with some hints to get the best result (algae waffers doesnt count) ;)

I feed mine Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets, Omega One Shrimp Pellets, New Life Spectrum sinking pellets (whatever type I have on hand - they don't care) and algae wafers on a daily basis. Several times a week they get raw shrimp, fish fillets (perch, flounder etc...), squid (they go NUTS over it), silver sides, smelt, squash, zucchini, carrots, potato, sweet potato, strawberries, honey dew and canto lope melon, various shellfish............ all skewered on stainless steel BBQ skewers. I don't think I left anything out:D ! They get various mixes of these things depending on the week/day and what looks fresh at the Super Market.

How do you mean... what hints and tips. It explains what species should be fed what type of diet, and has about 30 different foods you can try.

But maybe wyldfya could merge this thread into it, and keep the diet and feeding tips together, which is what was suggested in the thread.

Only other tips i can think of is to feed at lights out, remember your plecs will not necessarily eat as soon as you get them and may need a week to settle. Also to get foods to sink you can use something like a fork or spoon handle or kebab to skewer things to keep everything in one place, and to make things sink.

I feed all my plecos completely different foods as each requires different. However never had a carnivorous youngster (or even older) pleco refuse bloodworms (which i think i put in the thread) and also i do better with peas and potatoes for vegetables- and there is an older thread on a poll of what veggies do people find best to use. I'll try find it.

Mine are used to me messing around the room and the tank itself, so it doesn't matter what time of day I feed, they all jump on the food as soon as it hits the bottom. As davo said bloodworms are another great food.

If you're lucky enough to have them not mind your presence, that's great, but just something to keep in mind if you have a difficult feeder, want to make sure that the fish is getting to the food before it is outcompeted by other fish, and of course if they are very shy plecos (i have a few) then they will generally only be out and about at night. Wish was lucky as you JC with some of mine!
