Im new to the hobby and was wondering about feeding. I have a 20 gl tank with 5 silver dollers 10 zebra danios 2 plecos and 2 fire bellied newts that my roommates had to have. i have flake food and blood worms. how and when should i feed so that all get what they need?

well first off what type/size of filter do u have? I would feed them twice a day but not more than what they would eat in 1-2mins. Remember that is a lot of fish for a 20gl. But as long the water and fish are healthy and your happy then their should be no prob.(I would get rid of 1 of the plecos and fire bellies but that is just my 2 cents.-

Thanks i have a vacant 10 gl tank. Ill move the fire bellys and 1 plecos into that. ive ordered material and am planing on trying to build a 6'-2'-2' tank. we'll see how that goes. Thinks foe the 2 cents.

yeah just remember the plecos will get big fast . Do the newts need a dry place to chill or or they in all water?? I am asking because I know nothing about them.

im with you. like i seid bought them only because my roommates wanted them. 1 already died. got stuck behind a rock. moved 2 remaining fire bellies to 10 gl and one pleco. know nothing about the newts. thinking of finding a plastic coffee lid or somthing and letting it float in the tank so they can climb on to it if they want.

get some rocks from outside and build a tower in the tank. be sure to rinse them off first. thats what we did for our bichirs, looks really nice too. gives them a place to get out of the water on, and caves to hide in.

Also, most newts like cooler waters than the fish you have listed. Something to keep in mind.

(Anapsid.org may help.)

Those silver dollars will reach the size of your outstretched hand.. I sure hope you build that big tank ;)

Most Newts do better in cool water, post pics please, some stay aquatic. They also love small earthmorms and don't do well on just flake or pellets. Do you know which kind of pleco you have?

well i have bad news. I moved the remaining newts and one pleco to the 10 gl for the time being yesterday. I turned the heater down a little too. But when i got home today the thermometer had risin to above 85. All were dead. im learning some stuff the hard way at the cost of my fish. as to the new tank i ordered the acrylic glass and should get it on the 28th. i am getting six 6x6-1/4in sheets and two 12x12-1/2in sheets. ill practice with the 1/4in first. any tips would be helpful.
