Feeding Jack Dempseys

I have just purchased a 6" jack Dempesy from the LFS. He is refusing the foode I have offered him including crayfish and flake food. I tried krill but he only took one bite and spit it out.

Any suggestions on food will be greatly appreciated.

my JD will eat bloodworms. he prefers the frozen kind because he dont like to come to the top of the tank too much he waits for them to drop down. he also will eat crayfish, brine shrimp, and insects. I give them pill bugs, beetles, and earthworms. Hope this helps.

My guess is that your LFS fed him feeders (they love to do that), so he is now not interested in anything else. Just starve him for a few days and he will come to love cichlid pellets. (Forget flakes for a 6" cichlid.)

that's wierd. I once had a JD named jack and it ate like mad. everything, brine shrimp, blood worms, flakes, ETC. He's dead now .

but he lived for a couple of years. I think he ate bad feeders. I never use feeders anymore. we have a few rosies, but they are in our 29 gallon small comunity fish tank as pets.

Mine eats nightcrawlers,beefheart,bloodworms,pellets and brineshrimp.He will eat every thing but krill,he hates that.
