hey guys,

just wondering what i should feed my 2 4 in florida gars?
right now i feed them bloodworms and turn off the lights so they can eat.
they are skinny and wondering if there is any way of feeding them to make them fatter/grow faster?

thanks

Earthworms (best to clean them prior),mine used to love tadpoles at that size idk how available they are to you my bait store sells 10 for a 1$. if you wanna spend a few bucks i recomend a 20 gallon convict breeder tank constant food supply theyll reproduce 2-3 times a month. You could also try ghost shrimp you have to drop them in at night but theyll take them. Depending on how picky they are my last suggestion would be crickets. Floating cichlid sticks are the best to get them on just for the nutritional value. Drop a worm then stick worm then stick theyll spit the first few out but over 2-3 weeks will accept them

guppies is what i started mine with, mainly cause he was wild caught. I tried to switch him to sticks and even tried freeze dried krill to get him started on non live food, but he wouldnt eat em. He didnt eat for over a month and I got scared he would die so he's back eatin live fish.

I have had luck with crickets. They were the first thing I saw my Gar take.

sorry forgot to mention, they are with a 9" bgk, 3 xl large angels and 2 5-6" bichirs.
they do eat bloodworms but not as much as i would like. should i try live?

i wouldnt get em started on live if theyre eatin non live foods, its like crack for fish.

i have a bag of frozen silversides that i feed my bigger gar, so ill try getting them into little pieces. if anything the bichirs would eat them if the gar does. wish me luck hehe

btw just curious what kind of gar these are?
it was sold as shortnose gars

thanks
