Do any of you do this? My Mbu can pound through so many ramshorns it is useless to try to maintain a colony. But I have an abundance of very big, juicy land snails in my (no pesticide/herbicide) garden. Hundreds, all summer long. And they are much bigger than ramshorns and have much harder shells so the Mbu's teeth get a better work out. I fed a couple last night, no issues, but I am wondering if anyone sees a problem with this. These could be a staple if so, and is free and thiaminase free.

I lost a mbu once feeding these so never again. If you want theimiese free food that's really good for keeping teeth in check use whole cockle in shell. You can buy them from fish monger cheap clean them well and then freeze them leave them frozen for a good.week to kill any pathogen and all will be fine I use these as main staple never had him be ill or any teeth problems.

You 'lost' him? What happened exaclty? disease or ?? Just curious as I was thinking of adding snails to my fishes diet.. not quite as cool as your puffer though!

I've fed my mbus thousands of land snails. I collected 4 dozen from the woods and raised them in an old day gecko enclosure. Once I got hatchlings, I only fed captive grow-outs to ensure no pesticides got to the puffers. I got a list of recommended foods from sites that have care sheets for raising human-consumption escargot.
