I am having trouble with feeding my new 9" tiger oscar. He is the dominate one in the tank but he is not quick enough to get the food that I put in there for him. I have tried several times but I keep ending up with a morbidly obese RB Pacu and a quickly shrinking oscar. what can I do to make sure that the oscar can get some food instead of the pacu? Also, the tank is difficult to access because of the way the canopy is designed so reaching into the tank with anything will be a last resort. I will try to get some pics of them up soon. thanks in advance for your help.

Arnt pacus vegi? try some meat based food.

I would just get rid of the Pacu...but thats me.

my pacu will eat ANYTHING! he has munched on fish, bloodworms, shrimp, and crayfish among other things. and they are technically omnivores although most of their diet is veggies. also, the pacu is my favorite (fish) in the tank so getting rid of him is not an option.

feed cucumber and lettuce until your pacu is full and then give your oscar some masivore

that is what I thought would work but I am afraid that the pacu will eat itself to death before it gets full, you don't understand how fat it is right now; its stomach is more than double the girth of the rest of its body and he is starting to look like a puffer fish.

it should stop eating, and if you feed veggies there will be less waste, just make sure you take advantage of once the pacu stops eating and get the oscar nice and full
another option is to drop in food on opposite ends of the tank?

I have the opposite problem: my oscar is part pig.

To get food to my many other fish I simply feed simultaneously on either side of the tank. Also, I don't know if your oscar is a jumper, but if I hold some chopped shrimp 6" above the water nobody will grab it but him.

well, i got food to the oscar, I tried dropping veggies in at one end but then as soon as the pellets hit the water the pacu was on them. luckily, some got sucked into the overflow box and the pacu tried to get to those to eat them through the acrylic leaving the oscar to eat the rest of the pellets.
