i keep my puffers with a steady diet of frozen blood worm cubes, frozen mussell cubes, once in a while a cube of frozen krill. occacionally i buy ghost shrimp for them to chase around and eat as they please, and small snails everytime i find them at a store. my first set of questions are, should i be feeding anything different? are the foods i feed enough? should i get any vitamins to soak the food in and what type?

second: not all LFS i go to have the smaller snails available. they have the bigger ones but none small enough that my puffer will be able to eat(the size of their eye they say). when i am able to get them there are usually only like a dozen or maybe two available to me, but having 4 puffers they dont last very long at all especially for me to keep a separate tank for breeding them. what other types of hard shelled foods can i get them that will help keep their teeth trimmed? i get fiddlers and red crabs from the LFS since i dont have steady snails available, and they tear the crabs up. what else could i give them to keep them trimmed? i have a sand bottom to resemble their more natural habitat, so i got a small bag of seashells from That Fish Place(im lucky enough to live about an hour drive from there) but they dont seem fooled by the empty shells at the bottom. and every once in a while i will see my GSP go to the rock i have in the tank, strike at it and hold on for a second, any idea what that is about? is he trimming his teeth knowingly that they are getting a little longer? damn i love these fish!!! hahaha

sorry for the long post that you have to sit through and read now

What kind of puffers?

PufferPunk- You are my new favorite Shameless Self-Promoter!:ROFL::ROFL: Your articles are amazingly detailed & informative, though. I'm making my Fiance read all of them before I let her get the GSP she wants. I hope the Mods dont get pissy with you for linking out all the time. Would they let you post up a few of your articles as sticky's?

what about a vitamin(if needed) to soak in the water while defrosting the frozen cubes? i didnt see anything in all of the articles you referred me to. i have read most of them before and just freshened up on the ones i read and read the ones i havent but didnt see anything on vitamins.

instead of frozen mussel cubes- get live mussels (if you can)- break into pieces and freeze- shell and all. Then thaw and allow them to chew the mussel from the shell- can use other shellfish too (clams are all I can think of).

^ Besides Mussels, as you mentioned, Scallops always go down well with my puffers too...

ok so i just smash up the clams and live mussel with a hammer or something and freeze it overnight to kill any bacteria? and the scallops your talking about are just scallops you get from the grocery store that we eat right?

should i make sure that the pieces of shell after i break them are about as big as the snails i would get or would they just eat it regardless and be ok?
