I have read that plecos and catfish love zuccini and vegies. After I buy the zuccini at the store, what do I do to it to make it edible for them? Do I have to peel it and cook it a bit or put it in raw? I figure cold zuccini isn't the best way to go, does it have to be room temp?

Any advise on vegies and how to feed it would be great. I have plant anchors and can use those, but am afraid that they might hurt themselves on them.

I do feed wafers but all the fish seem to fight over those and when I break them into 1/2's, the pleco doesn't seem to want them. Someone said I should put the pleco in a fry tank and put a wafer in there and let him enjoy it in peace, but I figure this would be stressing on him.

Just cut the zuchini in about 1/4" slices(like a pickle) and place in a veggie clip or a plant anchor will work too. Mine eat everything. I just feed Hikari wafers and massivore delight (to my catfish) and frozen food on occassion and they get their fare share. They'll eat when they're hungry enough.;)

BTW, mine would NEVER eat the WARDLEY Wafers.

First off .. get your zuchini and either cut it 1/2 or just take a slice off it. Depends how big your pleco is. Maybe start with a smaller piece first.
Then stick a fork in it and let it sink in the tank. Temp wont matter as the tank water will warm it up in seconds. Then just leave it over night and take out any thats left over in the morning.

Try some other veges as well, mine like mushrooms, green beans and peas etc. Hard veges like carrots you can cook a bit first, but soft stuff like cucumber / zuchini etc , just drop them in raw.

Dont worry about overfeeding, just take out the leftovers next day.

Once they realise it's food they will go nuts over it.

Cooking veggies to make them softer for plecs is not needed.

my royal takes celery as soon as it goes in, but won't touch courgette (zuchinni) until it's been in there for a day

Thank you so much. I will get a variety of vegies today and put in the zuccini right away. I want to make sure all my fishies are healthy and happy. :)

Depends on the plcec species and vege I think.

Mine show zero interest in raw carrot or sweet potato, but will happily eat it if it's lightly cooked

I'm sure if they were hungrier, or panaque wood eaters, it would be different, but thats just my experience. :)
