Looking for some affordable feeding suggestions for my 4 payara and 3 rays. They have a bit of difficulty competing for food. Tank Mates range from 5in to 16in & include 1 Aro, 5 red hooks, 6 dats, 4 parrots, 2 pike, 1 red bay snook, 1 tarpon , 3 frontosa etc. I try and feed the others Cichlid gold Floating pellets first then feed shrimp(250 ct size) and cut smelt. The payara and rays get it but I have to feed large quanities to give them a shot at it. Going through about a 1.5 lbs a week. I also feed sinking pellets ( no longer feeding massivore due to cost) shrimp pellets and NLS but both seem to diminish water clarity.

  • Can anyone recommend a affordable sinling pellet that does not diminsh water clarity
  • Can anyone comment on the nutritional value of shrimp/smelt (dont have time or patience to pack w shrimp pellets) and effects on water clarity
  • Would like to hear possible suggestions for alternative cost effective meaty treats for my payara (NO Feeders)
Appreciate you taking the time to read and respond to this lengthly thread.

I use multivitamins and calcium supplements myself and incorporate them into gel foods for my fish.

Replace all the above fish with more Tats.= problem solved.:D

Sorry man wish I could help but I only feed live.

i've used Omega One shrimp pellets a lot for my bottom feeders and have no problem, i've also used a piece of 1" clear vinyl tubing for dropping sinking food to the bottom of the tank to keep my sa/ca cichlids from eating it all before it sinks.
