Hi guys

the other day i was at a chinese supermarket and was shopping for food for my piranhas i picked up some catfish, some raw shrimp, and something that kinda shocked me whole baby octopus ! (frozen of course) is this safe to feed ? is it toxic at all ? i was feeding them squid strips before but i cound't find any this time so i grabbed these

are they fine to feed em ?

I have never fed octopus to p's before but I don't think there will be an issue. just remove the beak and the organs (especially the part contains ink)

yes for sure i will remove the beak and ink sac, but is removing all the organs nessicary? i'd figure the organs contain far more nuitrients than the surrounding flesh and therefore it would be better for the piranhas if i could leave as many organs in as possible

Organs contains more vitamins (especially the liver) and other other nutrients but the reason I say remove as much as organ as possible is because they can foul your water quicker than just the flesh (such as liver), if your piranhas can devour what you put in quickly then of course you can leave as much organs in as possible.
I only feed my big rhom whole smelt (head and organs) because it can swallow it whole) and always gut the smelt when I feed my pygos other wise blood and organ pieces will be all over the tank.
I think those octopus are mostly wild caught and you have no idea what they have been eating so If I were you I would leave the heart and liver and remove the ink sac, stomach and intestine.

i got around to unthawing the big cube of them today (becuase they are like frozen in a block of ice ) and i was doing a little disection of one of them and found the beak, ink sac, and all the organs had already been removed so it looks like i wont have any issues i cut off some tentacles and tossed em in and the piranhas seemed to like em i refroze the rest of them

i would feed frozen squid to my RBP's without any issue, just remember to remove the beak and the ink sac and you wont have any problems
