Hi,

I just changed my bichirs' diet to smelt fish. I was wondering of i just cut the fish up into pieces without taking out the bones, will it do harm to their intestines? Btw i feed the head to them whole too, will any problem occur in the future? Fishes are at 12-18inches

hi,no ones going to cut the fish up in the wild for the bichirs so it shouldnt be a problem at home.my ornate, delhezi and senegal all eat the heads etc of my frozen lance fish.

ps,didnt mean my answer to sound cocky

Thanks for the advice my friend :)
I was afraid the large heads and bones may be too hard for them to digest.

no,the bones and heads will be ok.just make sure you feed the correct size pieces of fish to your bichirs.my senegal takes them whole and my ornate/delhezi have them cut up a bit smaller .

Alright i will continue with feeding them with it. Btw do u guys remove the intestines/stomach of the smelt to prevent disease transmittion?

I sometimes remove the guts only because they make a mess in the water-disease shouldn't be an issue at all

They love eating the cut fish even though it is too large :) Thanks guys! Hope they grow bigger and stronger
