I am doing some research re, feeding parrotfish.
I realise they need large tanks + they eat corals.
However I have read that in public aquariums ,they are fed useing a food that is mixed into dental plaster.
Has anyone come across this?
What is the food used?
Thanks in advance.

No idea but ille basically say dont bother. As you said they need a huge tank and will destroy anything in it. Including your live rock eventually.

The research is to develop a method of feeding parrotfish that are located within an fenced / netted ocean bay
There are no corals and the park wishes to keep parrotfish for periods of time for divers to observe

Ahh ok sorry then. I just thought you wanted one for your home tank. Again like i said im not sure about what aquariums use. If its a netted off area in caribean then why not just chuck algae covered rocks in there?? Or just plain rocks?? After a few days in shallow tropical water will probs be covered.

pm zoodiver,.
best advise i can give on this

A lot of ministry of fisheries red tape regarding disturbing the reefs ect. prevents moving coral from another site
The bay is a sand bottom and storms cleaned out most of the original large corals in it
The avaiable plain rock at the site is granite ( bit too hard even for parrotfish to chew)
Figured on esentialy feeding the parrots for a few months during the tourist season to suplement what they naturally can forage, then releasing them
out of the netted area at the end of the season.
Thanks again
