I've always feed my pleco's just the algea wafers, of course they eat brine shimp, beef heart, whatever I'm feeding my other fish. Know I have a 17" pleco and I want to make sure he's getting enough food, so I put some Romaine lettuce & cucumbers in the tank, he didn't eat any & it just clouded my tank. What do you guys do, or other foods?

Welcome to MFK!!!

I feed my plecos sinking catfish pellets, rabbit pellets, earthworm sticks, earthworms, potato slices, zucchini slices, bloodworms, juvie crayfish, raw market shrimp, and crushed land snails.

I also keep lots of driftwood in the pleco tanks since they derive some nutrient from the byproducts of bacteria living in the surface of the wood.

Do you somehow sink the vegetable foods or will they eat them floating, also does it make your tank cloudy?

Potato sinks as do frozen peas (forgot to list those). The floating veggies get placed in laundry pins that I attached to flower pot bases. I also attached long lanyards to these clip setups to save on wet sleeves/arms when I have to retrieve the holders.

my plecs will hit anything that hits the bottom of the tank from bloodworms to about any kind of sinking pellets. :)
