I am having an issue feeding my two Florida gar because of my 10" TSN. I feed them shrimp which I cut down the middle so the gars can easily swallow them, but my catfish will without any hesitation swim around and eat ALL of the shrimp before the gars can really get any. I usually put in about 6-9 shrimp depending on size which is split into 12-18 pieces.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

I found some bigger shrimp which I leave whole and hand feed them to the TSN, it takes him a bit longer to swallow these larger shrimp but I am concerned he might injure himself doing so.
Can catfish choke themselves or literally eat themselves to death at this size?

Dont Panic Exile. Your TSN will be fine.
You'd be amazed at the size of what they are capable of eating.
Providing the food item isnt too bulky your TSN should have no problem.

Have you tried hand feeding the TSN large fish fillets?
My 20" TSN takes large 8" maybe 10" Fillets of white fish.
I hand feed him 1st & then can feed the rest of the fish in the Pond without him harrassing them :nilly:

Nice to know he isn't gonna hurt himself eating so much...
I haven't tried fillets yet, I probably will have to once he gets bigger.
Hand feeding is a bit scary... I raised him on floating pellets since he was 5", so he strikes very violently at his food now. I'm sure he'll mellow out as he grows though
