Feeding P's North american fish

The real question..why you would feed a brook trout to the piranhas? And what size of brook trout you planning to feed them to the piranhas? have you check PA fishing regulations about what size you can keep brook trout?

If its safe for us, it "should" be safe for them.;)

I hope you won't be feeding live, cuz it'll most likely be bigger than your p's if it's legal size to take home.
if you just plan to feed the fillet then yea sure, just make sure you freeze them first to kill off some parasites (not all will get killed off but most should be) then thaw and feed to your p's. but I think trout is red meat and a bit oily like salmon so shouldn't be use as a stable diet. you could also use bass, catfish, crappie or sunfish.

Thanks its not a all the time thing. They are legal to keep, Friends went fishing a ton this past week an they got some brook/rainbow they dont want. Ill cook up some but I dont want it all. I was gonna take a few for P food an throw in instead of the usual shrimp and pellets ( when they eat them.) In the amazon rivers im sure all the food they eat isnt really great for them neither though. Concidering they eat rotting dead food/ sick wounded food right? Doesnt all live food have parasites of some sort Regaurdless? Are bass an sunnys oily also? My P's are feeding feins. Little tight on money this month as to me buying a new tank an setup. So I was trying to think of other temp. options

well, in the wild they have no choice, either eat or starve to death, but in captivity they are under your care, you have the option of selecting the best food for them. if you care for your pet fish then you wouldn't want them to eat anything bad all the time. bass and sunnys are not oily like salmon or trout. they all have some fat but not as bad.
same goes with parasites, you should try to eliminate as many as possible. usually wild caught fish or store bought will need to be quarantined and/or treat with med to remove parasites.

brook trout is what they caught. I was just going to put them to use. Other then them waisting half of them. I was just asking about parasites an ect. I have no intentions of hurting my fishes life or growth but eating those once in awhile during fishing season isnt gonna hurt them was my point an question. Just a little short on cash till next week ( payday ), Till I can get them there normal food. I figgured if I can eat it id feed it to them. Natural fish wise anyway. I thought id ask the more experienced about it. When I feed live fish I do put them in a tank for a good 2 weeks before they get put in main tank for treats. To make sure they are healthy first, never treated them though. I reasonly had a problem with a P getting bully'd an hes in bad shape so I put him in his own tank for a few weeks. That I housed my feeders in a few weeks ago. ( was running cycled already an all.) Till he gets better they get no feeders for dinner. Hes doing fine alone. The skoul just dont like him for some reason. They cast him out an attack him. Im afraid he is gonna be lunch. Since he is smaller an only has one eye.

Sounds like they want 1eyed rbp for lunch not trout. Put 1eye back in n feed the trout see which they eat. Either way you'll be good till payday.
