I've had this black aro for about 1 and half month now...it's not too crazy about FD bloodworm anymore but it doesn't eat anything else. I've tried flake, pellets, it would eat them but spit them right out then won't touch it anymore. Should I starve it to get it on pellets or what else can I try? I know it'll go crazy on insects but I rather not get it hooked on live food.
it's about 4"-5".

I just recently got my green eared sunfish onto flakes. Just starve it and because its an aro keep the lid EXTRA tight. I remember someone saying once that when the fish spit it out it recognizes it as food to first eat it but knows there are better options to come. Stop the blood worms and when it gets hungry enough it will eat them my fish did the same thing.

there are many things you could do...chopped shrimp, fish fillets, fd krill...the list is endless...there are many more options listed in the sticky i made...

I know what kind of food I can feed it but the problem is it would only eat things that are floating, I tried chopped smelt, not working. as soon as it starts to sink it doesn't pay much attention. FD krill ends up the same as pellet, it eats the first piece then spit it out.
I guess I just have to starve it to get it on other type of food.

idk...i have never starved any of my fish, including aros and they all take pellets...if it is still eating fd blood worms keep feeding it them and introduct the pellets at the same time...only do a few pellets to start...it will start eating the pellets as it will get used to seeing them with food and relise it is food aswell...i don't belive in starving fish as there is no need...it will start to eat them, black are more 'pellet ready' out of the gate to start so it shouldn't take to long...

Hikari Tropical Sticks.the ones that float. My pearl arro loves it.

stick with what it likes to eat. keep doing your water changes each week and keep temps between 82-86 degrees.

when it gets around 8-9 inches then try starving. try crickets in the meantime and see if he likes. GL!
