I have been trying to coax my jag into eating hikari cichlid gold, and so I haven't been feeding him except once a day I will toss in one pellet of this hikari gold and he swims away with not even checkin it out, and same with a chunk of frozen cichlid delight. When I approach the tank he seems as if he is afraid I am going to toss in another pellet. Is this normal when trying new foods and does anyone have any suggestions on how to coax him to eat this? I have been told to try and starve him and so I am working on that, as it has been 5 days now and no response to the pellets at all.

Porvided it's not sick and I'm not getting that from anything you discribed, he'll come around waite him out. What was he eating before?

He was eating another cichlid pellet by wardley, flakes, bloodworms, crickets, nightcrawlers, frozen minced krill and really no problems with any of these. It was just when I tried out this new hikari cichlid gold, he freaked out.
