Hi,

Im new to keeping Rays. Picked up a 12" male Motoro from MFKer steve_b about a month ago.

Just wondering how much daily he should be eating?

I have a greedy Vulture Cat who hoovers everything up and a greedy Dat who robs food from my hand. The Ray gets between 4-6 pellets daily (massivore, bloodworm and Hikari sinking pellets). Is this enough as I dont want to overload the filter?!

Cheers Jay

Slowly increase the feedings so the bio can handle it and make sure you have enough bio media to keep up.

Water changes would also help in between.

I would think you should feed a lot more than what you're feeding now. I like see the fat hump, like a well fed southern girl.

I try adding more food but the ray is too slow.
Selling my Dat this wk so should be able to hand/tong feed, also selling my Lyonsi Cichlid to free up some space.
Want to get this fella big and stocky :)

Keep a close eye around the hip area Jay to make sure you can't see any bones protruding, this is a very bad sign.

The guys keeping rays here are very wise, particularly the UK based ones - i'm sure T1 or Aquaman will chime in and offer sound advice.

I'm about to move my motoros us to my 240 and I've been concerned as to how they will compete w/ my cichla/cichlids and characins for food too.

Not had any problems with the Cichla or Cichlids. I just throw all the food in at once so loads sinks. Its my catfish who hoovers it all up.
I can hand feed but my Dat attacks my hand and takes the food... even if I have a clenched fist lol

Thanks Ash will do
