i got a question about mealworms.
a friend of mine who keeps reptiles told me that mealworms can do serious damage to reptiles because they can eat through the stomage of an animal. I got a 30 cm jardini and feed it frequently mealworms but now i'm doubting whether this is a good idea..
Does anyone know if mealworms can damage a aro?
Secondly, does anyone use wax moth as a feeder?

the meal worms will do fine with ur jardini. the worm will either die from being inside the fish or die from suffacation of the water.

If you're worried about the meal worms, do what I usually do. I pinch the heads of the meal worms before I feed them to my jardinii.:WHOA: A bit messy, but at least the worm is dead and no chance of it biting the stomach lining of my jar. :grinno:

I disagree with your friend's opinion. The bad thing about mealworms is their tough outer shell which is difficult to digest (Reptiles). I suppose fish could have similiar digestive problems but Aro's are well equipped to eat a variety of insects.
Try wax worms if you want to be "Safe". NO tough outer shell.

its fine man! so far ime, i have yet to encounter an aro dying incident coz of mealworm attacks. they can even eat poisonous centipede ;)

ok, that's a relief.
@ Brooklynella; do you mean the wax moth larves(Galleria mellonella)?

Yup, that's them. Very soft on the outside. They are readily available here in the NE U.S. anyway.

have you ever seen your aro actually eat the meal worms? the throat of an aro crunches that thing into lil tiny pieces b4 it even swallows it... when i used to feed my aro pinkiez or fuzzies, while he's "chewing" i would see blood all coming through its gills telling me, anything that goes in the mouth, does not survive b4 it gets to the stomach, dont be worried mann...
