Hey guys, I have a 75 gal that is currently holding a SA cichlid and pleco. I'm going to be removing them soon and putting some sunfish that I'll get out of my local pond to put in there. They have several different types of sunfish in there that I've caught. Warmouth, pumpkinseed, bluegill, green, and a few others. Anyways, I was wondering about their feeding habits. What would be a good food for them, how often, live food?...etc. I could use some help on this. Let me know what you all feed your sunfish and how that works out. Thanks.

I feed mine New Life Spectrum pellets and that's about it. The younger they are, the easier it will be to get them on pellets, but usually they aren't that hard to get on pellets anyways.

Feed mine koi pellets, but also shrimp and earthworms ocasionally. They'll do fine on anything you give them, except goldfish and the likes :)

When I used to keep sunfish I fed them the same stuff I fed my large bruiser C.A. cichlids. NLS/Hikari gold pellets, chopped seafood (shrimp, fish, mussels, w.e was on sale at the grocery store), nightcrawlers, etc. Some species LOVE snails so those make a welcome treat as do any random insects (crickets, mealworms, aquatic nymphs) and occasionally small fish.

+1 whatUmbra said :)

Thanks for the info. I already have the NLS and the Hikari Cichlid gold, plus easy access to worms and such so it looks like I'm ready to go. Got the tank all cycled and ready to go too. I'll post a thread when I start stocking it.
