I want to start feeding my sevs a bit more of a varied diet and i'm interested to know what is acceptable for them as food.
I use Hikari excel and bio gold along with meal worms and prawns, chopped smelt, beefheart, home made spirulina mix and so on.
I've been looking here http://www.livefoods.co.uk/index.php?cPath=94 and i want to know if i can feed the silk worms and butter worms etc.

Thanks for your replys guys..

Beefheart shouldn't be fed consistently (or at all in my opinion) as some species have trouble breaking down the fat content.

Excel is good due to the vegetable content and although Severums love food of every kind, they're herbivores at heart in my opinion, they absolutely love vegies! Mix in some Peas in their diet often, as well as Cucumber, Zucchini and Romaine Lettuce (pending if they eat the three latter), and you'll have healthy fish.

No idea about the worms but I'm sure they're fine. Mine love all kinds of Earth worms (Nightcrawlers, Red Tigers, etc.) as well as Black and Blood Worms.

The Hikari and my spirulina mix is the staple and all others are treats or a good gutfull twice a week along with normal feeds aswell. (1 day of no food each week also)
For the veggie i use lettice and my tank is planted aswell so they can gorge whenever they fancy it. Bloody expensive replaceing the plants every other week mind...

I've got two Severums, one of which is new replacing a large 7" Female, and with a solid variation of Peas and other vegetables they weren't touching the couple of swords in my tank ;)

I'd agree with Japes on this one.

Vegies are their natural diet should be fed as a staple along side pellets, suplimented with occasional bug treats.

However, it really is easier said then done. My green male wont touch anything other then pellets and woodlice now :)

Best of luck with the culinary adventure. Let us know how you get on.
