Feeding Shrimp to oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I peel the shrimp and remove the tail. I don't want the hard sharp edges even possibly injuring them inside. It's not worth the risk. But i don't know if I'm being an overprotective mother.

I used to live in Florida and would have left over live shrimp all the time from fishing (great bait).

I fed them live to my oscars for years with no problems. They loved it:D

Oscar is in my opinion is an easy eater. Had a few when i first start out. They will eat float and sinking pellets, other fishes, and raw shrimp that was mean for my arowanas. They will stuff their mouth full even if they can swallow.

depends on how big they are.

if they cant eat it hole. Deshell the shrimp. If you dont deshell, take off the head and tail. where they have the sharp points

I use raw shrimp. I take off the tail. Then I just put in the meat, my rtc, tsnxrtc, marbled pim, lima, and clown knife love it!

I take off the shells for mine and take off the tail as well for the bichirs.

Uncooked would be the first choice but if you cant find it then cooked is fine. For safety reasons I would take both the tail and shell off. It would be terrible if your oscar died because it choked to death on a tail or the shell.
