I have 16 small black piranhas. They've been qted the last week and seem to be fine, however I have not seen them eat. I know sometimes they eat in the dark or when no one is around, but the food I've put in the tanks looks like they haven't been touched. So far I have tried shrimp, shrimp soaked in garlic, blood worms and black worms. Any ideas?

did the seller tell you what they were being fed previously? i wouldnt worry if they havent eaten in a week since they may just be adjusting to the new tank. maybe check your water parameters and make sure to take out uneaten food to prevent ammonia/nitrite spikes?

what are your water parameters? water temperature?
do you have 16 black piranhas all in one tank???
if so, how big is the tank and what kind of decor you have in there? how big are those fish?
try some fish fillets. if still no luck then get some guppies and see if they will go after them. I would quarantine those guppies first.

black piranha (rhoms) are known for not eating for awhile after being shipped, from stress, I wouldn't worry much and like my man asked do you have them in the same tank?

This is one of these threads that is difficult to respond to. Without knowing your future intent or current tank size or over-all Piranha species knowledge it's gonna be real hard to help you out. For startes - 16 Black Piranha in one tank doesn't immediatly sound very responsible. However, if they are fry, you are a dealer, if the species is Pygocentrus, or these fish are growing out in an aquarium comparable to thoose used at Seaworld - the situation changes.

Considering I am a vender I plan on selling them all. I have never brought in Blacks and figured I'd ask the "experts". Water permitters are perfect. There are 4 per tank in 55 and 30 gallons. Each tank has drift wood and several large and small fake plants. I noticed them picking at the bottom this morning.

Food is taken out the next morning when fed at night or taken out in the afternoon when fed in the morning.

ok, if you plan on selling them then that's fine.
by picking at the bottom you mean they are eating the food you left in the tank?

I've never really had any trouble feeding P's although my RBP & Rhom are more shy about feeding then the Mac. I got an extermely unsual fry batch about 2 mo ago - Siamiese Tiger Dats. Trying to get them to eat was like pullin' teeth, they were dying fast until I used just born Mollie fry to get them goin'. I tried flake, brine, and micropellets - they wouldn't touch it. After a few weeks of mollies they're eating small krill chunks and talapia chunks. These guys are SUPER small maybe the size of a dime. With Rhoms, they do generally eat the fins off of other fish as juvi's. I can only speculate as to why. Perhaps in the case of my Dats their teeth may not be fully developed enuff for them to rip and tear. The Dats are far from the only fish that I own that needed weened - If I were in your shoes I'd get some very small tetras, guppies if tetras aren't doable, and see if they'll except live foods - then ween them after they start eating daily.
