I just fot a 2 thinbars yesterday and I am not sure they are eating. I have them in a 150 with some small barbs and 3 small pbass. I have been feeding frozen bloodworms and havent seen them eat.
What is the best food for a small dat?

where did you buy it? and what did the seller feed the datnoids? i feed mine with market shrimps or krills. they did eat feeders before but i taught them to eat market shrimps and krills. :) would be best to start with what they were eating before and them slowly introduce other types of food.

I never asked the lfs what they were eating. I think they just got them in the day before and never seen then eat also. That why im kinda worried.
I just noticed they have ich. The tank is set at 84 degrees and I have also added salt.

You might have to give them some live foods. I'm feeding mine live black worms until I can train them to eat prepared foods.

get them on live frist... then go for shrimps

I just tried some cut pieces of shrimp, and one of them ate a pmall piece. Gues I need to cut it smaller. I'll get some feeder mollies tomorrow.

i had some problem with ick on datnoids once.. just dropped some jungle meds.. for some reason my fish doesn't seem to like the ick of jungle but the fungus clear is always the one that makes the job done in a day or two. i find dats tough on icks. unlike plecos which dies out too fast on simple icks. try some feeders and them cut shrimps.. alternate them until you can train them to take anything that is dropping or floating in the future.:D

I wouldn't be worrying yet. You only got them yesterday..give them some time to adjust.

I find that my tigers at that size love BW, krill and smelt.

Xxblwn408 I havent seen mine eat either. I tried various foods but no luck. I think I'm going to go with opai for now. They are only about an inch. So nutrition is important. I wouldnt risk starving them out at this size. Plus they are a little weak from the ich and I would feel better to know that at least they have some food in them. Copper safe is working great for me. But I treat all my sick fish with salt and heat. Best cure I know. For now just get some food in their belly and train them when they get a little bigger.

i've had my wide bar for a little under a month now, maybe even 3 weeks. Since i've gotten him i've given him 3 live ghost shrimp which he stalked then attacked. But i wanted to get him off live foods. So after A L O T of waiting. I'm proud to say he started eating freeze dried krill soaked in VitaChem and Garlic Guard. STARVE THEM.
